Basic Car Care Tips
It is always important to take care of any mechanical system, it prolongs and optimises its lifespan and maintains its value.
Here are a few tips.
Regular Servicing
All manufactured cars come with a manual and servicing schedule. These are there to make sure the vehicle is checked at regular intervals to ensure it is working correctly and safely.
Oil Change
Engine oil deteriorates over time while the vehicle is being used. It collects dirt and particles of metal which mixes with it and lowers the oil performance. The oil change empties the reservoir completely taking all the dirt and particles with it.
Oil Flush
Over time even regular servicing can’t remove the build-up of sludge in the engine. It is advisable at the time of servicing to have an oil flush every few years. This helps to maintain the efficiency of the engine and may contribute to fuel economy. Just ask your local centre for details.
Tyre Pressure & Wheel Alignment
Keeping your tyre pressure correct and wheel alignment in place can vastly improve the performance of your vehicle in the way of fuel economy and getting good miles per gallon.
Cambelt
If you have done between 60,000 and 80,000 miles, but ever vehicle is different. Refer to your owners manual for details, or come and speak to us at Titan. If you fail to replace this, you can seriously damage if not done at the correct time.
Wash Your Vehicle Often
If your paintwork has chips in it, road salt can erode the exposed metal underneath which leads to rust. Cleaning it on a regular basis ensures that any corrosive materials are removed and a protective wax is usually applied as part of the process.
Windscreen Maintenance
Without looking after your wiper blades, your view of the road is obscured. Eventually your wiper blades crack and smudge your view when being used due to the deterioration of the rubber and should be replaced. If you get a chip in your windscreen you should tend to it immediately. A chip can eventually be a crack which is hazardous and requires a full windscreen replacement.
Long Journey Checks
When your planning a long journey it is advised to do the following checks before leaving:
- Tyre pressure and tread including the spare tyre.
- Oil level and water level.
- Windscreen wash.
- Your breakdown cover.
- That you are carrying the correct safety equipment and documentation, especially if you are planning on driving your car in Europe.
Have a safe journey!
